PowerPoint Evaluation
I believe that the PowerPoint Jess and I created went very well. We chose to deconstruct the first 5 minutes of ‘The Dark Knight’, which is the bank robbery scene. I proposed to Jess that we use this scene because 1. It’s my favourite opening scene of any film I have watched so far and 2. I thought it would include lots of Diegetic and Non-Diegetic sound, for example: Gun shots, traffic, grenade pins and smashing glass. Within our PowerPoint we included an introduction to inform the audience what we were analysing, Diegetic and Non-Diegetic Sound, How the sound was recorded and how the sound during the film sets the mood.
If I had to do the PowerPoint presentation again, I would include more detail about diegetic and Non-Diegetic sound and the soundtrack for the 5-minute sequence. I would also look at the audience more and engage them in the PowerPoint. The reasons for this would simply be to get a better grade, to push from a Merit to a Distinction and to keep the audience interested.
During the presentation task I did use my glossary to help me understand how to pick out Diegetic and Non-Diegetic sound. The reason why I used my glossary rather than the internet is because I know that the glossary is my work and I can rely on it to be correct, rather than using a sight from the internet that could possibly be wrong.
Through this task I have learnt what Diegetic and Non-Diegetic sound is and how it plays a big part in creating a film, also how it sets the mood for the scene and characters. However I also learnt how to analyse a scene from a film and pick out the Diegetic and Non-Diegetic sound and explain why they were used.
