Disconnected - Brief

Disconnected – Brief

The way I want to lay out the music video will basically be in two parts. The music video will tell a story cutting from Jazz playing a piano and footage of Jazz and her brother.  Firstly when Jazz is playing the piano, she will be place on a darkened stage playing her piano, where only Jazz and her piano are lit up. The camera shot used for this will be close ups on her face and her hands playing the piano, mid shots, a long shot fitting the whole piano in shot, also a 360 rotation around jazz playing.  The reasons why I chose these shot because the close ups show her emotion on her face while the other shots show her posture, for example: she is singing an emotional song so she wont be happy, she will be slow moving and sad. I chose for jazz to be on a darkened stage with only her and the piano lit because in theses shots I want the audience to focus on Jazz and her music, this is because the song is about her feelings and her brother, nothing else.

Secondly, I would like footage of Jazz and her brother, also shots of her brother in Afghanistan. The footage wouldn’t be staged it would be more like home video footage. The reason why I want footage of Jazz and her brother is because I want the audience to recognise their bond between each other and how close they are. I also would like footage of her brother in Afghanistan, this is to show the audience that his job is very serious and her could possibly die, this will make the audience understand why Jazz has written the song and why its an emotional experience. However it is risky using “home” footage because its not exactly the best framing or quality, but it will make the audience know, this is real, its not staged, that it is a true experience and that its not just another fake heartfelt, emotional song.
